Breathe In, Hold. Out.

Years ago, I read a great tidbit of info from a renowned physician.  It was about a breathing routine.  Ideal for stressful situations. Wonderful for lowering blood pressure and just a simple practice to feel peaceful.  I was to breathe in slowly, through my nose to the count of 7, then hold my breath to the count of 4 and finally to exhale through your mouth to the count of 8. Golly, it really works.  Sometimes in crazy traffic, I do this.  At times of unrest, I do this in bed and find myself slipping into sleep land. Since I am a nervous-Nelly going to the doctor’s office, I ALWAYS do this routine while waiting.

Ezekiel 37: 6,…” I will put breath into you, and you shall live and know I am the Lord.” Edwin Hatch used this and similar Biblical references to write the lyrics to the hymn, Breath On Me, Breath of God. “Breathe on me, Breath of God, fill me with life anew, That I may love what Thou dost love, and do what Thou wouldst do.”

God has truly breathed life into each one of us and loves us unconditionally.  Practice creating a balm of peace within YOU, perhaps by singing Edwin’s hymn, or doing breathing exercises, or yoga, or tai chi, or praying. As peace fills you, you will be able to share that calm harmony of His intention for love one to another. Sharing is caring. Peace.
