Cleaning

I took advantage of my time off from school work last month to do a little cleaning.  Cleaning out drawers and closet space doesn’t make the appearance of my overall house any cleaner.  It’s slow, tedious work sifting through what is necessary and what can be given or thrown away.  But, I can only stuff things in the closet and in drawers so many times before they fill up and there’s no room left for what I need to put away.

As I was cleaning out my drawers and closet I thought, I wonder if this is what our spiritual lives look like: cluttered and dusty.  What about our lives, minds and hearts?  Are they so full of clutter that we have buried the good and necessary things?  Is there room there for God in our lives?  Are there things we need to get rid of?

What things are cluttering your life, your time, or your focus and energy?  What do you need to get rid of?  What parts of yourself can you empty to make room for God’s Spirit?  The fruits of your spiritual cleaning will result in making room for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatian 5:22-23)

Read Philippians 2:1-11, and remember: God loves YOU unconditionally!
