Take Out the Trash

Now that’s a headline that caught my attention! Since my nearest and dearest has been laid up, “trash taking out” has become one of my jobs. I admit, it’s not my favorite.

Strangely, this was the heading on a recent daily devotion. OK, not sure I get this yet.

Agreed, none of us wants to live in the midst of yesterday’s debris. We really don’t want to hoard trash. Or do we?

The writer went on to explain, he wasn’t referring to the old junk piled in the garage, but the remnants of anger and hurt we harbor in our hearts.

I looked into my heart. Was I hoarding past slights, piling up rejections, accumulating insults? Yes, we’ve all had our share.

Jesus spoke to this when He answered Peter’s question in Matthew 18:21-22: “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven time?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus said. “Seventy times seven!”

Starting a new day? Jesus tells us to forgive, to get rid of the trash.

He gives you His unconditional love; let it fill your heart. Then share that grace with others!
