Just four more days to the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Our hearts and minds grow closer to Mary, the loving and gentle teenager who would give birth to the Savior of the world. We marvel at her faith, she never doubted the words of the angel. We’re awed by her strength, she made the long trip to Bethlehem just days before the delivery of her son. We think of her labor and the pains of childbirth. But perhaps most of all we marvel at her wisdom as her motherhood unfolded. “She kept all the things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19
Mary, did you know? Did you know what your son would become? Did you know the wonders he would perform? Did you know you would see him tortured on a cross? I think that we could safely say that she did not. Yet, she did know that he was the Son of God. She knew he would be a boy and man like no other. She knew he would have the power to do what no other man could do. In her simple wisdom, she loved him as no other mother could.
A few years ago the song “Mary Did You Know,” became a favorite for the Christmas season. Lyrics were written in 1989 by Mark Lowry, music in 1991 by Buddy Greene. I hope you will enjoy the version which follows here.
