Last week I wrote about the instability and heartache in our world and how we can do our own small part to make it better by being kind to each other. I will once again address that topic, but with a slightly different twist as I feel it is very much needed for our peace of mind in these trying times.
This story came to me by way of Facebook again and it was actually written in the form of a prayer by Pastor David Stone of Lakeway Baptist Church.
The Buttermilk Prayer
One Sunday morning at a small southern church, the new pastor called on one of his older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said “Lord, I hate buttermilk”.
The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The deacon continued. “Lord, I hate lard”.
Now the pastor was totally perplexed. The deacon continued, “Lord, I ain’t too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix’em all together and bake’em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits”.
Lord, help us to realize when things come up that we don’t like, when life gets hard, when we don’t understand what You are saying to us, help us to just relax and wait until You are done mixing. After You get through mixing and baking, it’ll probably be better than biscuits”.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose”. Romans 8:28 Amen”.
Stay strong, because our Lord is mixing several things that we don’t really care for, but something even better is going to come when He is done with it. The best is yet to come.
Remember, God loves us unconditionally! Thanks be to God!
