Rooted in God

What is the purpose of a root? I think we all know it supports and holds up a plant. It delivers nutrients to the rest of the plant. The deeper the root, the more it can support the plant.

As Christians, we need to plant roots in the love of God. Those roots will support our growth in Him, hold us up and support us when the world comes against us. To be rooted in God means to build our lives on His truth, love and guidance. Just as a tree with deep roots can survive storms, droughts and strong winds, a person who is rooted in God can stand strong during difficulties. Problems will still come, but faith gives us stability, hope and peace that the world cannot provide.

Paul speaks to the believers in Ephesus, encouraging them to grow in faith and become spiritually mature. In Ephesians 3:16-17 he preaches these words.

“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust him. Your roots will grow into God’s love and keep you strong.”

When we stay connected to God through prayer, reading the Bible and trusting Him daily, our hearts grow stronger. We become more patient, loving, forgiving and wise. Instead of being controlled by fear or worry, we lean on God’s promises. He nourishes our souls the way water nourishes a tree’s roots.

Thank God for His unconditional love for us and for planting Himself in the heart of the saved, giving us strength and sustaining us with His love. This promise never changes and continues to stand the test of time. Thanks be to God!
