We just returned home after spending three weeks getting to know our new granddaughter. It was a beautiful time for us, snuggling and loving that little bundle of joy and watching her grow even in that short period of time. Our daughter and son-in-law were also a joy to watch as their love for their little girl poured out of their hearts. They are working so well together, learning to navigate parenthood as it applies to the needs of their child. What a precious gift they have been given!
Being gone from home for that long for our special visit was full of wonder at the delight we experienced with our family. Love was shared and beautiful memories were made. As enjoyable as the visit was, it was also a joy to return home. Home is where I find solace and God’s blessings are most deeply cherished. Returning home reminds us of the peace and comfort God graciously provides through His unconditional love for us. As Psalm 121 declares, He guards our going out and our coming in.
As Christians, we can also view our earthly lives as a journey. We gladly travel the path God has set before us, serving Him wherever He leads. But our greatest homecoming is still ahead, when Christ welcomes His faithful children into our eternal home with Him forever.
I can’t wait for the next visit with our little princess. God has blessed us richly with this new life He has placed in our family. We are so thankful for this child He has given us and can’t wait to make more precious memories with her. Thanks be to God!
