The Cross

I don’t know how many of our readers watched the Kentucky Derby this year, but it was very exciting as the winning horse, Golden Tempo came from dead last and passed 17 horses to win the competition. Many fans at the Derby noticed something special about the horse. He had a white marking on his forehead shaped like a cross. In the middle of the excitement of flashing cameras and a roaring crowd, that simple mark became a quiet reminder of faith for many watching around the world.

After the race, Golden Tempo’s jockey, Jose Ortiz a devote Christian was asked about the unique cross marking and the pressure of riding in such a historic event. His response pointed not to his own talent, but to God’s strength. He referenced Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Those words have encouraged Christians for generations, reminding believers that true strength does not come from fame, ability, or success alone, but from trusting in Christ.

In a race known for traditions and greatness, Golden Tempo’s cross-shaped marking became more than just a physical feature. For many, it symbolized hope, faith, and the reminder that even in the world’s biggest moments, God’s presence can still shine through in simple and unexpected ways.

God loves us unconditionally. He uses people, events and yes, even horses to share His message to all of us. Thanks be to God!
